Four Teams Emerge as Candidates to Offer Sheet Matthew Knies
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies is looking to get a new contract this summer, however, offer sheets could be on the way if he doesn't sign by July 1st.
Matthew Knies was one of the best players on the Toronto Maple Leafs this season as he managed to score 29 goals and add another 29 assists for a total of 58 points.
Now, he is a restricted free agent, and the Leafs want to sign him to a deal that will keep him with the franchise for years to come. However, they also have to get this deal done fast, or other teams can swoop in and offer sheet him.
According to Jeremy Tingly of The Leafs Nation, there are four teams that could viably offer a competitive offer sheet right now.
Those teams are the Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, Utah Mammoth, and the Calgary Flames. Those first three make a lot of sense as they absolutely need some offense.
A Knies offer sheet would likely cost between $7,020,113 - $9,360,153, which means potential compensation would include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-round picks.
Will Matthew Knies sign an offer sheet?
Matthew Knies has already made it crystal clear that he has no interest in signing an offer sheet right now. He wants to play with the Leafs, and he is committed to getting a new deal by June 30th.
The big question now is whether or not this new deal will be long-term or simply a bridge contract. Fans would love a long-term deal.
Knies is an exceptional young talent, and there is a real possibility that he takes another leap during the 2025-26 campaign. Having said that, the Leafs must get a deal done.
If they don't, they will be feeling immense regret for a very long time. This may just be the most important moment of General Manager Brad Treliving's tenure so far.
