Carter Hart is officially heading to long-term injured reserve as Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy navigates a complicated roster situation.

The front office finally made the highly anticipated paper transaction official on Wednesday afternoon.
Management placed the controversial goaltender on LTIR due to a lingering lower-body injury. The strategic move is officially retroactive to January 8.

Brett Howden also joined him on the shelf with a retroactive placement dating back to January 10. The business side of the NHL is completely unforgiving.

Cassidy desperately needs financial flexibility ahead of the rapidly approaching trade deadline. Sitting injured players creates massive salary cap relief for the defending Pacific Division heavyweights.
Vegas just opened up roughly $3.1 million in cap space by shuffling these contracts around behind closed doors. this gives them an opportunity to make a move at the NHL trade deadline.

Two players placed on injury reserve

Hart posted a 5-3-3 record before his sudden exit from the crease. His reliable puck-handling abilities from the back end helped stabilize their overall defensive structure.
But missing massive stretches of the regular season forces the remaining active goalies to shoulder a brutal workload. Adin Hill and Akira Schmid must lock down the crease immediately.
With a sturdy +12 goal differential right now, the Golden Knights built their comfortable cushion by leaning heavily on crisp passing and solid execution in all three zones.
Over his NHL career, the 27-year-old netminder has proven he can handle the suffocating pressure of a heavy workload.
But his sudden disappearance from the active roster changes the immediate trajectory of this franchise. Vegas must aggressively push the pace moving forward to maintain their playoff seeding.
