Earlier this summer, Nick Robertson decided that he wanted a fresh start elsewhere after having a difficult time finding ice time with the Toronto Maple Leafs. With how strong the Maple Leafs' top-six is, Robertson doesn't have much of an opportunity to crack it at this time and feels like he'd be better off with another organization.
As the summer dragged on, the restricted free agent forward remains unsigned and hasn't been traded as of September 9th and it appears that after all, he may remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While making a radio appearance this morning on First Up, TSN insider Darren Dreger reported that he believes both Nick Robertson and the Maple Leafs will get something done in terms of a contract and that the 22-year-old is leaning towards making the best of his situation in Toronto.
Dreger also mentioned that Nick Robertson has spoken with the Maple Leafs' new head coach, Craig Berube, and that the Pasadena, California native will be given an opportunity with the team on the left wing, a position they've been searching for help in.
With training camps around the National Hockey League opening next week, the Toronto Maple Leafs are likely hoping they can get Nick Robertson signed quickly before it becomes a distraction heading into the new season.
