Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Dennis Hildeby has been solid with the team this season, but with Anthony Stolarz returning, his fate has been sealed.
With a 2.90 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage, Dennis Hildeby has been solid with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.
He has been forced to take over for Anthony Stolarz, who has been out of the Maple Leafs' lineup for over two months with a nerve injury.
Overall, Hildeby came into this role with some doubters. However, there are some who feel like the netminder has played himself into a future role with the team.
For now, Hildeby will have to enjoy his time in the NHL, as new developments prove that he won't be up here for much longer.
Dennis Hildeby won't be with the Leafs for much longer
Earlier today, Anthony Stolarz was sent down to the Toronto Marlies for a conditioning stint. Once the stint is over, he will be back on the Leafs' roster.
According to Chris Johnston of TSN and The Athletic, the plan is for Hildeby to be sent down to the Toronto Marlies once Stolarz is good to go.
Hildeby always knew that this was what the plan was, so he can't be too upset about this predicament, even if he did love the NHL grind.
With the Marlies, Hildeby will have a wealth of experience behind him, and we can only imagine how motivated he will be to put his best foot forward.
Having said that, the goaltender should not be ashamed of the fact that he is going to be sent down. He did an excellent job with the Maple Leafs.
If he can keep his consistency up, perhaps in the next few years, he will be a mainstay of the Toronto Maple Leafs' roster.
