Toronto Maple Leafs send star goalie to the Marlies, but for good reason

Anthony Stolarz was the best goalie on the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, and had he remained healthy, he could have easily ended up with a Vezina Trophy nomination.

This season, he has dealt with a nerve problem in his upper body, and it has been a trying time for him, as there have been few updates on when he would return.

Today, the Maple Leafs offered up some fantastic news concerning Stolarz. He has been sent down to the Toronto Marlies for a conditioning stint.

This means he is finally healthy and is ready to start playing games again. The expectation is that he will get into a game or two for the Marlies and then return to the Leafs' lineup.

Joseph Woll did something similar when he went on a leave of absence before the start of the season. The timing could not be better.

This could be the jolt that the Toronto Maple Leafs need right now, especially when you realize how they have not had their tandem this season.

Not to mention, Joseph Woll has been less-than-stellar in his last few starts and clearly needs some kind of relief in the form of a goalie he can share the net with.

While Dennis Hildeby has been decent this season, the Leafs would absolutely love to have a healthy Stolarz, who elevated himself to his play last season.

The Leafs are in the playoff hunt, and having both Stolarz and Woll on the roster is going to help the team tremendously, or at least that is the hope.

Stolarz and the Leafs are not in the clear just yet, but there is no denying that they are in as good of a spot as ever.
