Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann is being linked to a couple of West Coast teams right now, and the Maple Leafs have a very big decision to make.
Bobby McMann has been a solid contributor for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, with 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points.
He is one of the few guys who can play all throughout the lineup and do so with a smile on his face. Not to mention, he is consistently able to give you some timely goals when needed.
Having said that, he is a free agent this summer, and he has the ability to choose his own destiny. The Leafs are interested in re-signing him, but the ask is heavy.
It is projected that McMann will cost between $4 and $5 million per season. Considering the fact that the Leafs are floundering right now, it feels like the Leafs could end up trading McMann in order to bring back some draft capital.
Bobby McMann and the Maple Leafs could be on the outs
According to David Pagnotta, the Maple Leafs want to use their upcoming four-game road trip to determine whether or not guys like McMann should stick around.
If they decided to trade him, it appears as though the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings would be the likeliest destinations for him.
This upcoming 4-game road trip before the Olympic break could ultimately determine the Leafs’ direction ahead of the trade deadline. If McMann becomes available, multiple contenders are expected to show interest, including the Oilers and Kings.
The Edmonton Oilers are going on another run right now, and it feels like once the playoffs start, they will be uniquely positioned, especially with the Florida Panthers out of the playoff hunt.
As for the Los Angeles Kings, they are another team in the midst of a retool, and are hoping to make something happen before it's too late.
The McMann situation is an interesting one, and we will certainly be keeping track of it over the coming weeks and perhaps even months.
