Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander has struggled over the last four games, and it has led to a pretty hefty demotion that affects his spot in the lineup.
William Nylander started the season on a major high as he had a total of 32 points in just 21 games, making him the most productive player on the team.
Since that time, Nylander has played four more games,, and he has not been able to register a single point, which has proven to be a major problem for the Maple Leafs.
He is not living up to his contract right now, and his effort on the defensive end has been just as problematic, with fans showcasing their displeasure.
Head coach Craig Berube is not happy either, as on Wednesday, he demoted the forward to the third line, where he will play alongside Nicolas Roy and Dakota Joshua.
William Nylander talks about the Maple Leafs power play
Nylander will remain on the top power play unit, which continues to be one of the Maple Leafs' biggest weaknesses this season, to the point where fans are fed up.
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Nylander couldn't help but get in a snide remark about his team's power play, and its inability to score.
When asked what he wants to see from the PP1 unit going forward, he got a bit snippy, saying "Score a goal, maybe that's all."
He said it with a smile on his face, but at this point, it is no laughing matter. The Maple Leafs are in desperate need of Nylander to step it up, and tonight is a great opportunity to do so.
The Maple Leafs are going up against the San Jose Sharks, and they have an opportunity to win five of their last six games.
This would be huge for the squad, as it would officially put them one step closer to a playoff spot, before taking on the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
