During the summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs opted to part ways with President Brendan Shanahan, and now, the former player is looking for new jobs.
Brendan Shanahan is a bit of a polarizing figure when it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs. On one hand, he presided over a very prosperous time for the franchise.
During his tenure, the team made the playoffs a bunch and were seen as viable Stanley Cup contenders. However, the team had very little playoff success during his tenure.
Furthermore, he was part of some terrible contracts that plagued the team's core four. It got to the point where Shanahan's role had run its course, and MLSE was ready to cut ties.
Over the summer, the team opted not to renew Shanahan's contract, which turned him into a free agent. Now, he is working in the Hockey Operations department of the NHL.
Brendan Shanahan linked to the Vancouver Canucks
Of course, Shanahan's goal is to eventually work for an NHL franchise again, and there are plenty of teams out there with open jobs for the former President.
According to Frank Seravalli, one of the teams that could be interested in acquiring Shanahan is none other than the Vancouver Canucks, who are in a bad situation.
The Canucks are not going anywhere right now, and if they trade Quinn Hughes, they would have to plunge themselves deep into a rebuild.
Shanahan has been through rebuilds before. While the Leafs have yet to go to the Eastern Conference Finals with their current core, the rebuild was still a success.
Given that track record, it is very easy to see why a team like the Vancouver Canucks would want to swoop in and obtain someone like Shanny.
Only time will tell whether or not the Canucks end up embracing Shanahan, and bringing him on board for the ride.
