Lindy Ruff fires back at Marco Sturm after chaotic game and it’s heating up
Lindy Ruff and Marco Sturm just dragged Bruins-Sabres deeper into playoff theater.
Ruff's line landed because he did not even try to hide the grin.
Asked about the temperature rising in the series after Sturm talked about Boston being bigger and more physical, Ruff said, “Yeah well, you heard [Sturm] said they're bigger and more physical, so yeah, for sure. I'm a little worried.”
Then came the smirk.
That is what turned it from a standard coach quote into a playoff jab. Ruff was not answering with concern. He was mocking the idea that Buffalo would be rattled by Boston trying to turn this into a heavier series.
And honestly, that tells you exactly where the Sabres think this matchup is headed now. They do not see the Bruins' physical push as some hidden advantage.
They see it, they hear it, and they are already chirping back through the coach.

Tension rises as Lindy Ruff takes shot at Marco Sturm after chaotic game
That is the real story here. Not just one funny line, but the way Ruff delivered it.
The look on his face in the clip says as much as the words. He pauses, gives the answer dry, then lets the smirk do the rest. It is classic playoff needling.
That matters because Sturm had already been talking tough about Boston being bigger, stronger, and more physical. Ruff basically told him that message did not scare anybody in Buffalo.
It also adds another layer to this series, because coaches usually do not jump into that kind of exchange unless they know the room is already feeling it too.
And this series clearly is.
The hits are harder now. The talk is louder. Every whistle feels like it is half a second from turning into a pile.
Ruff's quote works because it puts Buffalo right back into that emotional fight without sounding desperate. He did not rant. He did not overplay it.
He just took a little shot and let everyone understand it.
That is playoff hockey at its best. One coach talks about muscle. The other smiles and basically says, go ahead, try it.
Now the pressure shifts back to Boston.
If the Bruins are going to keep making this about size and edge, they better make it matter on the ice. Because Buffalo's coach just made it pretty obvious he is not losing sleep over the warning.
And once Lindy Ruff starts smiling through the noise, the series usually is exactly where he wants it.
