Matias Maccelli Just Blew the Doors Wide Open On the Toronto Maple Leafs' Season
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matias Maccelli is coming off a difficult season with the Utah Mammoth, although all signs point to him having a huge comeback year.
Matias Maccelli is a player who went from hero to zero last season with the Utah Mammoth. When the team was still in Arizona, Maccelli was showing 50 points per season potential.
However, he had a huge dip in production last season, and was only able to manage a measley 18 points and eight goals. It was a rough season that had many wondering if he could recover.
As a result, the Maple Leafs were able to get Maccelli for cheap, and now, there are conversations about putting the forward on the team's top line.
Matias Maccelli is ready for the Toronto Maple Leafs season
Yesterday, the Maple Leafs' players got together for the annual charity golf tournament, and many of the team's new players were interviewed.
Matias Maccelli was one of them, and during the event, he spoke about his motivations going into this season and how he has never felt better.
It's probably the highest it's ever been, coming here. I mean, what's a better place to play? It would be nice to play in the playoffs for the first time in my career.
If Maccelli can get back to his old ways, the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be in for a very solid season. After all, this is a player who can set up goals in creative ways.
Maccelli could maximize his potential next to Matthews and Knies. If he does that, then perhaps we see Matthews get back above 50 goals, and Knies above 30.
Whatever the case may be, the forward is easily one of the most fascinating cases going into this upcoming season.
Only time will tell whether or not the bright lights of Toronto bring him down yet again, or lift him up to new heights.
