Max Domi Hit with a Harsh Reality from the Toronto Maple Leafs' Most Staunch Critic
Former Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill recently spoke about Max Domi, who notoriously had a lackluster season with the Leafs in 2024-25.
Max Domi only had eight goals last season, and it was easily the worst year of his professional career. So much so that some Leafs fans felt like he needed to be traded.
With Mitch Marner gone, Domi might be moved to the first line, where he would play alongside Auston Matthews and even Matthew Knies.
Domi has had success playing with Matthews, and if he has a solid bounce-back season, then his future in Toronto will be cemented.
However, if he has yet another disappointing campaign, then there is a real chance that general manager Brad Treliving is going to pull the plug.
Jay Rosehill tells the truth about Max Domi
On a new episode of 'Leafs Morning Take,' former Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill spoke about Domi and noted what he needs to do going forward.
Quite simply, Rosehill feels as though Domi just isn't playing with enough passion.
You know, when they signed him I thought he's the type of guy we need, but I just need him to play, I need him to be involved more. He needs to be more intense and more agitating into being; I don't like to compare guys, but be like a Darcy Tucker, a guy who would do anything it wouldn't really matter. He would do things to dictate the game, or take over and demand respect. This year, Max was trying to quietly score goals, but I think you gotta do more. You gotta play with more passion, be more intense, and I think he is capable of that.
For some, this might be an oversimplification of what is happening. However, there is no denying that passion is part of it.
Clearly, playing Domi as a center was not the right move last season, even if it was a necessary evil given the roster construction.
Now, the Leafs have an abundance of centers, and that means Domi should be given a nice break.
