Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is at the Olympics, and he has a big task in front of him as Team Canada looks to go for the gold medal.
Mitch Marner is one of the best players in the NHL, a statement that not every Toronto Maple Leafs fan is going to want to hear.
However, it is the truth. Marner would not have made Team Canada if this weren't the case. In fact, the forward is now in Italy, preparing for Canada's very first game of the tournament.
It is going to be a massive undertaking for Canada, and there is no doubt that the fans are very excited to see how this tournament works out.
This morning, Team Canada actually made an announcement, and it is one that may come as a bit of a snub to Marner.
Team Canada names its captains
As we all expected, Sidney Crosby was named captain of the team. As for the alternate captains, we have Cale Makar and Connor McDavid.
Marner did not make the cut. In fact, it's a bit bizarre that Nathan MacKinnon didn't get the A over Makar, although perhaps the team felt like a defenseman needed a letter.
Whatever the case may be, Marner cannot let this snub get to him. Instead, he must remain laser-focused on Team Canada getting a win.
Team Canada is the current favorite to win the tournament. They have the best players, and they also won the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Their big weakness is goaltending, but if they can score goals, they will certainly be able to show the rest of the world they mean business.
They'd better hope Marner doesn't become his playoff self during this extremely important tournament.
