Morgan Rielly to Replace Mitch Marner in One Crucial Role on the Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has just been given a new assignment that will actually seek to replace Mitch Marner in a critical role.
Morgan Rielly is coming off a difficult season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, although by all accounts, he seems to be in a position to bounce back.
All of his teammates are saying he is in the best shape of his career, and even general manager Brad Treliving is impressed with what he's seeing.
Having said that, many have been curious about Rielly's role on the power play going forward. Last season, he was taken off the first unit, as the Leafs went with five forwards on the PP1.
Of course, Mitch Marner is no longer on the team, which means they no longer have a point man for the first power play unit. This has subsequently led to questions about Rielly's potential role.
Morgan takes over role from Mitch Marner
On Friday, it was confirmed by Mark Masters that Morgan Rielly will, in fact, be back on the first power play unit this season.
With Mitch Marner gone, Craig Berube confirms that Morgan Rielly will start at the point on PP1 at Leafs camp
The rest of the power play is likely to consist for Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Matthews Knies, and William Nylander.
This is going to be a high-flying power play, and it is all going to have to start with Rielly, who needs to show that he can still play at a high level.
Leafs fans are certainly eager to see what Rielly is able to do this season, and the front office will also be watching very closely.
If he doesn't turn things around, his time with the franchise could very well be over.
