Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson has become a restricted free agent, and today, he made a huge decision that will make life difficult for the franchise.
Nick Robertson signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, and it came in the midst of a trade request due to a lack of playing time.
Throughout last season, Robertson found himself on the wrong end of numerous healthy scratches, particularly in the postseason.
Going into the offseason, there were rumblings about the forward's future and whether or not the Leafs would even want to bring him back.
Nick Robertson pursues arbitration with the Toronto Maple Leafs
On Monday, the Leafs filed a qualifying offer for Robertson, meaning the forward could either sign for what he was making last season or he could deny it and renegotiate as a restricted free agent.
Today was the deadline for arbitration, and Robertson turned out to be one of the 11 players going down that route.
Now, an arbitrator will hear from both the forward and the Leafs before coming to a decision on what Robertson actually deserves.

Arbitration can certainly be a bit of a headache, and we imagine the Leafs are not too happy about this predicament.
There is even a sense that once Robertson get signed, the Leafs will trade him for assets or another roster player.
Either way, some big decisions will be made in short order, and it will be interesting to see how the Maple Leafs handle all of this.
