Philip Larsen retires from professional hockey, closing a short chapter with the Dallas Stars earlier in his career.
The former Stars defenseman is stepping away at 36 after a career that included time in the NHL and overseas.
Larsen was a right-shot option on the blue line but did not secure a long-term role in Dallas.
He was used in a depth capacity and moved in and out of the lineup during his time with the team.
Across his NHL career, Larsen appeared in 151 games and recorded 37 points.
In 2013, the Stars traded him to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Shawn Horcoff.
A short stay in Dallas
Larsen did not hold a steady spot on the blue line and was not a regular on special teams.
His usage remained limited before the trade that sent him out of Dallas.
After leaving the Stars, Larsen continued his career with several stops between the NHL and Europe.
He eventually found more consistent ice time overseas, taking on a larger role.
One of his more productive seasons came in the KHL with 32 points in 61 games.
That level of involvement was not seen during his time in Dallas.
For the Stars, Larsen's tenure was brief and relatively low profile.
The move involving Larsen was tied to roster needs at center at the time.
He went on to build a long professional career across multiple leagues.
Now, with his retirement, it marks the end of a career that included a short stop in Dallas.
