The Toronto Maple Leafs dominated game one against Ottawa, but according to PK Subban, the officials were very soft on some of their penalty calls.
Game one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators was just as fiery and intense as everyone expected, and although the home team dominated on the scoreboard, this series is shaping up to be a brutal one for both teams.
While it was very physical, PK Subban after the game called out the officiating for a particular call or two, stating that the cross check to the back of
Chris Tanev from
Tim Stutzle was not a penalty, despite being called a boarding penalty.
In the game, a total of 24 penalties were called, and while almost half of them came in a scuffle in the final minute, it just goes to show how much hatred exists between these two teams in the storied Battle of Ontario.
On this occasion however, it appears that Subban is right, and given the intensity around the rest of the game, this was a very soft call, especially with the score sitting at just 2-1 when this was called against Stutzle.
After scoring on the first powerplay, the Maple Leafs would make Ottawa pay again on the next one following another penalty, and while most of the calls the officials got right, Subban was seemingly right to slam them for their call in that particular moment.
However, it's Toronto with all the playoff experience in this rivalry, and while the Senators got a little taste on Sunday night, you can't make up for that lack of experience, and unless they do something special in game two, this could be a dominant series on the part of the Maple Leafs.
