Head coach Rod Brind'Amour is managing a fractured locker room after Nicolas Deslauriers was the only reinforcement added to the Carolina Hurricanes roster.

The trade deadline has officially passed. Instead of loading up for a deep playoff run, general manager Eric Tulsky mostly watched from the sidelines.
Carolina currently sits atop the Metropolitan Division. They have completely dominated the Eastern Conference standings for months.
Fans and players fully expected a massive splash. Rumors heavily linked the club to elite centers who could drive the transition game and bolster their offensive output.
Instead, they acquired a physical depth forward from Philadelphia. The front office decided to rely on their existing core to chase the Stanley Cup.

Brind'Amour not happy with Hurricanes deadline

Following a gritty victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night, the mood was surprisingly somber. The head coach did not hide his assessment of the vibe inside the dressing room.
"I know there's a lot of disappointment," Brind'Amour stated flatly to reporters.

He acknowledged that the boys were hoping management would go all-in this spring.
Brind'Amour pointed out the inherent difficulty of sitting at the top of the mountain. Opposing clubs are actively upgrading their rosters specifically to catch Carolina.
Over his NHL career, Tulsky has always valued internal assets over flashy rentals. He strongly believes the team already features three top-40 centers capable of producing solid execution.
The market for tradable superstars was incredibly thin this year. Giving up massive packages of draft picks simply did not align with the long-term vision in Raleigh.
Brind'Amour completely understands both sides of the coin. "On one side, it would be nice to throw your chips in and see if you could improve your team, but we love the group we have," he explained.
There is some positive news regarding the crease. Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov could potentially return to the blue paint if the squad goes on a deep playoff run.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi survived the deadline block and remains on the active roster. He needs to find his scoring touch and start contributing on the power play.
The Hurricanes must now tune out the outside noise. They boast a 2-1 record on their current road trip as they pack their bags for Calgary.
The pieces are officially locked in place. Carolina is banking on their current chemistry to survive the grueling gauntlet of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
