Ryan Reaves' Trade to the San Jose Sharks Appears to be An Act of Revenge
On Thursday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs traded Ryan Reaves to the San Jose Sharks, although the time of the move could not be more transparent.
Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs made a trade as they sent enforcer Ryan Reaves to the San Jose Sharks for young defenseman Henry Thrun.
While some might think this trade is small potatoes, it's actually a huge deal for a few reasons. Firstly, the team now gets an extra defenseman while freeing up some space in the bottom six.
They have more cap space to go out and get some free agents, and they also rid themselves of a guy who wasn't going to play a whole lot this season.
Why did the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Ryan Reaves?
In fact, some believe this move may have been an act of revenge from Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving.
Reaves recently admitted that he was one of the people who recommended the Las Vegas Golden Knights to Mitch Marner. This is the ultimate betrayal, and Reaves was soon left packing.
24 hours after Reaves came out and basically showed 0 appreciation for the Leafs organization while giving praise to Mitch Marner he's traded to one of the worse teams in the league. There's a clear message from Brad being sent to the team and the league.
Of course, Treliving has not admitted to this being the reason behind the trade, but the timing could not have made more sense.
That said, the Leafs had been wanting to get rid of Reaves for a while, so this is a good opportunity for that to finally happen.
Now, Reaves can get some playing time on one of the worst teams in the entire National Hockey League. At least the Sharks have an enforcer now.
As for the Leafs, they have Michael Pezzetta, who is younger and a lot hungrier to make a splash.
