Sam Bennett Signing With the Toronto Maple Leafs: A Major Development Has Been Revealed
Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett is currently in the midst of negotiating a new deal with the reigning Stanley Cup champions, and a huge update has been reported.
Sam Bennett just won his second-straight Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, and this time around, he even got himself the Conn Smythe.
As a result, the Panthers have been trying to negotiate a contract extension. For a while there, it seemed like Bennett was going to go somewhere else. But over the past few days, a reunion with the Panthers has become inevitable.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the teams interested in signing Bennett, and they would pay the big bucks to make it happen. Unfortunately, on Monday, the Leafs got some bad news on that front.

According to Chris Johnston of TSN, the Florida Panthers and Sam Bennett are as close as you could ever be to a contract extension. In fact, CJ believes it is "as good as done."
This is a huge blow to the Maple Leafs, although they probably should have seen this coming from a mile away. It was obvious from the beginning that a signing was unlikely.

The Toronto Maple Leafs also want to sign guys like Brad Marchand, although that is not going to be easy either. After all, the Panthers want to bring their entire Stanley Cup-winning team back together.
It is understandable as to why they would want to do such a thing. After all, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Hopefully, the Maple Leafs can pivot over the coming weeks and come up with a solution to their free agency plans. After all, free agency officially begins on July 1st.
As for Bennett, his salary will be interesting, although we imagine it to be in that $7.5-$8 million range.
