Sammy Blais claimed off waivers by bitter Toronto Maple Leafs rival

Just moments ago, the Montreal Canadiens claimed Sammy Blais off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs put Blais on waivers on Wednesday.

If you remember, it was the Canadiens who put Blais on waivers first. The Leafs claimed him just a couple of days before the season opener.

Now, Blais will get to go back to his home province team. It's going to be a bittersweet moment for the forward, who would certainly love a more concrete NHL role.

Blais never got to play a single game with the Montreal Canadiens, although that is likely going to change very soon, as the team needs depth.

The Canadiens, much like the Maple Leafs, have dealt with a ton of injuries this season, and they are trying to get out of that slump.

Blais is a solid depth forward who can slot into your bottom six and give you some good defensive minutes on any given night.

During his brief eight-game tenure with the Maple Leafs, Blais was able to achieve one goal and two assists. Although for the most part, he was just there for defense.

Throughout his career, Blais has 74 points in 265 games. These aren't exactly numbers that jump off the page, and it is hard to imagine him becoming an offensive juggernaut out of nowhere.

Whatever the case may be, Blais is going back to the Canadiens, and we wish him the best of luck, going forward.
