Sean Avery's Comments About Auston Matthews Lead to 'Spittin' Chiclets' Tongue-Lashing
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been garnering criticism from everyone as of late, including former NHL enforcer Sean Avery.
Sean Avery is someone who has always said whatever is on his mind, even if those opinions are extremely unpopular, and in some cases, beyond the pale.
Recently, the former pest was on 'Spittin Chiclets,' where a spirited conversation was had about players around the league and their Stanley Cup viability.
Auston Matthews was brought up in these discussions, and it led to some striking comments from Avery, who is clearly not a big fan.
Sean Avery gives his take on Auston Matthews
As you will see below, Avery doesn't believe Matthews truly has what it takes to become a winner. In his mind, he doesn't have the 'next gear.'
If there's a guy right now in the league that I say might not have the next gear to win, he [Matthews] might be at the top of my list.
Paul Bissonnette immediately came to Matthews' defense, noting that the forward is one of the best players in the league, and is a work horse, even when he doesn't score.
Now you're just stirring the pot... If he's not putting it in the back of the net, he's still such a horse. I don't agree with you, Aves. I think he is an absolute horse.
Even Keith Yandle had to step in, noting that Auston Matthews is the kind of guy who is dependable and if given the proper tools, could easily win a championship.
I think Papi's got it in him. He just doesn't show it cause he can't cause he's in Toronto. He's not going to be calling guys out on the bench because he knows it'll be such a big deal... I think he's so good. I got no complaints on Auston.
So there you have it, 'Spittin Chiclets' has Auston Matthews' back no matter what. As for Sean Avery, he has proven his opinion does not matter.
