Sheldon Keefe officially hired
Just weeks after he was fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs Sheldon Keefe has already landed a new coaching job with the New Jersey Devils.
If you were to ask most Toronto Maple Leaf fans, they would tell you that Sheldon Keefe is not a very good NHL coach. Keefe failed to get the Maple Leafs beyond the second round in his 5 years as the team's head coach. With the amount of talent on the team, it is difficult to believe and it is clear why he lost faith of management.
However, it doesn't seem that he lost faith of other teams around the league. Weeks after being fired by the Maple Leafs, it now appears that Keefe has landed a brand new job with a New Jersey Devils. While not official, the news is expected to be announced this week.
Was told there is a verbal agreement in place with Sheldon Keefe again it comes down to it he wants the job. But again nothing official is official but have to expect the announcement next day or two. #njdevils @FullPressNHL @myNHLTradeRumor
Keefe feels like a very good fit for a young team with some Elite talent. Only time will tell if he has the tools to get them to buy into his system and build successfully towards their future. The Devils missed the playoffs this year something they are not looking to do next year.
This is also a huge win for the Maple Leafs who will now be off the hook for Sheldon's multiple year extension.
Today the news has been confirmed by Darren Dreger.
Good scoop. Sheldon Keefe is in fact the new head coach of the Devils
Sounds like 4 years total including the two years owed by the Leafs.
