The Salary of Anthony Stolarz's Next Contract Just Took a Serious Turn

Anthony Stolarz was an absolute revelation last season as he finished off his campaign with a 2.14 goals-against average and a save percentage of .926. He also had four shutouts, which is truly impressive.

In the postseason, the goaltender continued to be a stud; however, he eventually faced a season-ending injury, which was devastating for all sorts of reasons.

At 31 years old, Stolarz is going into the final year of his two-year deal with the Maple Leafs, and many are wondering whether or not he will get a contract extension.

Of course, the Maple Leafs also have Joseph Woll on the roster, which makes things quite complicated. Ultimately, fans are unsure if the Leafs would want to continue to run with two capable netminders.

Interestingly enough, if Stolarz does take a new deal, it is going to cost the Leafs dearly, at least according to former NHL goalie Carter Hutton.

On TSN 1050 'Overdrive,' Hutton made the claim that Stolarz's next deal could be upwards of $5-$6 million per season. It's a lofty mark, but if he puts up the same numbers as last season, that is what the market will be.

At the end of the day, this is a hefty price to pay, and one has to wonder if this is simply a case of one goaltender bigging up another.

It is hard to imagine Stolarz actually making that, especially since he will be 32 when he signs his next deal.

Either way, Leafs fans are hoping for him to have another big season. If he does, it will be a huge win and a huge look for the team.

The only issue will be his ability to stay healthy, although you never know, he might just pull it off.
