The Toronto Maple Leafs didn't get the Chris Tanev update they were hoping for

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev has had to deal with concussions this season, and following a meeting with doctors, an announcement was made.
Chris Tanev is one of the best players on the Maple Leafs when he is healthy, and since last season, he has been an anchor of the blue line.
Unfortunately, this season has been plagued with concussions, and it's been tough to watch such a good player and good person deal with this stuff.
He has missed over a month of action, and there has been a sense that he could be coming back soon. After all, he has been practicing with the team.
Furthermore, the defenseman had an evaluation on Wednesday, and this was supposed to determine when he would be able to return.
Maple Leafs reveal what's next for Chris Tanev
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the Maple Leafs actually have any more clarity right now. According to David Alter of The Hockey News, Tanev is getting a second opinion.
This means the defenseman will be evaluated all over again to see if this doctor agrees with the initial one. It's standard practice, but not what the Leafs were hoping for.
The Toronto Maple Leafs could use all the help they can get. Brandon Carlo will be out for another month, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson is dealing with an issue.
Injuries have plagued the Leafs' roster this season, and it is a huge reason why they struggled so much at the start of the season.
Having said that, the Leafs are getting points, and that is good to see. Whether or not the team can turn it around completely is to be determined.
For now, all anyone can do is hope that Tanev is able to return to the ice sooner rather than later.
