Things get heated between the Leafs and Oilers as all hell breaks loose after whistle

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been branded soft during the core four era, and with the hiring of Brad Treliving, it became common knowledge that he was going to do his best to put his stamp on things and create lineup he felt could be successful become playoff time; insert Joel Edmundson.

While it has taken a little while for Edmundson to become comfortable and find his game, the thirty year old veteran showed what Treliving knew he could bring to the table Saturday night when the Maple Leafs hosted the Edmonton Oilers.

During a short scrum in the middle frame Edmundson came barrelling in behind his net to seemingly protect his teammates, briefly pushing and shoving with Connor McDavid before cooler heads prevailed.

If the Maple Leafs are to push past the second round during the post season, Edmundson and his grit are the type of player they will need to be successful and while the sample size certainly is remarkably small, it would appear that having a guy that will go to bat for anyone against an opponent could be the recipe for playoff success.

The exchanges after the whistle continued as the 2nd period came to a close.
