Top Insider Confirms the Future is Bleak for Nick Robertson in Toronto
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson just signed a new deal with the team, although the trade rumors surrounding his name continue to ring out.
Nick Robertson trade rumors have been ongoing ever since last summer, when the forward had yet to sign a new deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He was seemingly unhappy with his role with the team, and there were all sorts of pundits claiming that he would be gone in short order.
Of course, this never happened. Instead, Robertson played with the Leafs last season and managed 15 goals in 69 games. Meanwhile, he barely got any playing time in the postseason.
Nick Robertson could be on his way out of Toronto
Throughout the summer, the trade rumors surrounding Robertson have grown louder, even despite signing a one-year contract through arbitration.
According to Chris Johnston, the Maple Leafs are still considering a Robertson trade, which would certainly shake things up across the league.
Still there's some talk out there that the Leafs are open to moving [Nick] Robertson around the league; maybe there's a window here; teams start juggling their rosters around as we get through training camp
Johnston believes the trade could even happen prior to the start of the NHL regular season. After all, teams are looking to move their rosters around.
If Robertson is traded, the Maple Leafs are going to have to realize that the return may not be what they were hoping for or expected.
Having said that, the Leafs are still a very good team as is, and that means Robertson will have to earn his way onto the roster just like everyone else.
Only time will tell whether or not Robertson starts the season with the Leafs, or inevitably is forced elsewhere.
