Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson has struggled for opportunities at times, and according to Chris Johnston, this has led to real-life ultimatums.

Nick Robertson is currently in the midst of a huge breakthrough. After registering just one point in the first seven games of the season, Robertson has managed six points in his last five games.
In 12 games this season, Robertson has three goals and four assists, which is a nice improvement upon last year's pace. At the start of the season, Robertson found himself stuck in the bottom six.
However, as soon as the Leafs put him on the first line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies, he began to flourish. His play has been nothing short of impressive, and Leafs fans are hoping that he stays in the top six.
Having said that, just a couple of weeks ago, there were all sorts of reports that the Leafs were keen on trading Robertson, and that the feeling was mutual.

Nick Robertson pushed for Toronto Maple Leafs trade

Well, Chris Johnston of TSN and The Athletic recently revealed that Robertson himself has pushed for a trade over the past couple of years, although to no avail.
There's a reason why the Leafs haven't just traded Nick Robertson...over the last two years; Nick himself has wanted it; they recognize there's something there; they were never just gonna give him away
A Robertson trade made a lot more sense when he was struggling to do anything in the bottom six. However, now that he is getting points on the top lines, it makes no sense to get rid of him.
The Toronto Maple Leafs always knew that Robertson had talent, but they just weren't unleashing it in the correct ways.
Hopefully, the Leafs continue to give Robertson opportunities. If he continues to deliver, then the team will have no choice but to keep him.
His contract expires after this season, and if he keeps this up, then the Leafs may just have to give him an extension.
