The Toronto Maple Leafs could use a bit of scoring in their bottom six, and the Edmonton Oilers have a forward who could fit that need.
If you have been watching the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, then you would know that the team has struggled when it comes to their depth scoring.
Although it has gotten better at times, there is no denying that the Maple Leafs could stand to improve. In fact, general manager Brad Treliving is always looking for trade options.
One of those options has become available in Edmonton. The player is none other than Andrew Mangiapane, whom the Leafs tried to sign this past Summer.
He ended up going to the Oilers on a two-year deal worth $3.6 million per season. In 39 games, he has 11 points and doesn't appear happy with his usage.
Andrew Mangiapane becomes available
Tonight, Mangiapane is a healthy scratch, and according to Elliotte Friedman, he appears to be willing to waive his no-trade clause.
The forward just isn't getting what he wanted out of the Edmonton Oilers, and it has led him into a situation where he would rather leave than stick around.
We've seen a couple of trades recently where players who, their situations just weren't working out; I think...if the Oilers can find something...where he might have a bigger role, he would be willing to waive
Whether or not Mangiapane is willing to go to the Leafs after rejecting them in the offseason is something that very much remains to be seen.
However, you can never go wrong with an offer. If Mangiapane is for the taking, Treliving should be looking to do his due diligence.
Over the course of the coming weeks, this is something that we will be following very closely.
