Toronto Maple Leafs Announce the Signing of Four Forwards and One Defenseman
The Toronto Maple Leafs organization is looking to stack the Toronto Marlies with talent, and in free agency, they have been able to make some additions.
Free agency has been quite difficult for the Toronto Maple Leafs, although everyone knew that this was going to be the case given the thin market this offseason.
After losing Mitch Marner, they have been looking for top-six forwards. While they haven't found their next superstar right-winger, they are still trying to make moves in the AHL.
The Marlies lost some talent this offseason, and now, the Leafs are trying to bring guys in to make this a true contender for the Calder Cup.
Toronto Maple Leafs add to the Marlies
Yesterday, we reported on the signings of Reese Johnson, Marc Johnstone, and goaltender Ken Appleby. Well, today, we have five more signings to report.
Four forwards and one defenseman have been signed by the Marlies organization. Defenseman Ryan McClearly was given a one-year deal in the AHL.
Meanwhile, Gunnarwolfe Fontaine, Nick Rheaume, Marko Sikic, and Ben King are forwards who also got hit with a one-year deal.
These are solid signings, and while they may not be sexy, they are exactly what the Maple Leafs need right about now.
The Marlies needed some forward talent, and now they have a lot of it. These are also players who could get NHL opportunities if they develop well.
Only time will tell how these signings work out and if Maple Leafs fans are satisfied with how their farm system is coming along.
Whatever the case may be, the Leafs are making moves, and they continue to explore their options, moving forward.
