Toronto Maple Leafs & Chicago Blackhawks Finalize Major Trade After Game 7 Blowout
Two years ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Chicago Blackhawks made a trade for Jake McCabe. Now, that trade is finally complete thanks to a loss in Game 7.
Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of their second-round series. It was a 6-1 blowout, and fans are absolutely livid.
Having said that, the loss benefits the Chicago Blackhawks, who were waiting on the results of this series in order to finalize a trade.
Of course, we are talking about the 2023 trade that sent defenseman Jake McCabe to the Toronto Maple Leafs. A deal that has worked out for Toronto.

This deal included the Leafs sending the Blackhawks a conditional 1st round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
According to Blackhawks reporter Ben Pope, the Leafs' loss now means the Blackhawks will pick 25th in the first round, in addition to their own pick, which is much earlier in the draft.
Had the Leafs won, the Blackhawks would have had to have picked between 29th and 32nd. While this isn't a huge difference, the trade terms are finally done.
The Maple Leafs' first-round pick, which the Blackhawks own, is going to end up being 25th overall. If they won tonight, it would've been in the 29th-32nd range.
For the Blackhawks, this is all part of their rebuild as they look to get back to the success and the glory they once had.
As for the Toronto Maple Leafs, this is yet another playoff disappointment that showcases just how useless this team can be in big moments.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs ever figure it out in the postseason or if they just blow up the Core Four entirely.
No matter what, this was a wild series and a huge eye-opener for a lot of the people watching at home.
