On Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe got injured, adding to the team's problems.

Jake McCabe took a puck to the face on Saturday night, and quite frankly, it was an appropriate metaphor for just how bad that game was.
The Maple Leafs lost to the Canadiens by a score of 5-2, and for the most part, it was one of the worst games the Leafs have played this season, which is saying something.
After Saturday night's game, Leafs head coach Craig Berube wasn't so certain about McCabe's status going forward. After all, McCabe has had to miss time before due to taking a puck to the head.

Jake McCabe injury update favors the Maple Leafs

Today at practice, the Maple Leafs actually got an update on McCabe, and shockingly, it is an update that works out in the team's favor.
According to Berube, McCabe is on track to play against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night. With injuries ravaging the team, the Leafs will not have to call up another defenseman.
Of course, the Leafs are having some major injury problems right now. Guys like Auston Matthews, Chris Tanev, Matthew Knies, Brandon Carlo, Nicolas Roy, and Anthony Stolarz are all out of the lineup.
These injuries have created some major problems for the team, as the losses continue to pile on. They have lost seven of their last eight, and are last in the Atlantic Division.

Jake McCabe's stats at a glance this season

Jake McCabe has been one of the few Maple Leafs defenseman generating offense this season, as he has managed three goals, seven assists, and 10 points in 22 games.
Despite the team's lack of success, he has a plus/minus of +3, which certainly puts him above guys like Morgan Rielly.
He is the type of defenseman the Maple Leafs need right now, and it is certainly a positive sign that he will get to play in a couple of days from now.
