Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev got injured a couple of weeks ago against the New Jersey Devils, and he has remained out of the lineup ever since.
Chris Tanev has been a stud for the Toronto Maple Leafs ever since being brought in a couple of years ago. He is a shutdown defenseman and is a nice complement to the crew.
Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago, against the New Jersey Devils, the veteran went down with an upper-body injury, and he has been out of the lineup ever since.
The Leafs have been in a slump since Tanev acquired his injury, and it has been incredibly difficult for the Leafs to get out of it. After a bad game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, it is clear that this team needs some good news.
Chris Tanev works towards a return
Today, the Maple Leafs were on the ice for a practice in Philadelphia, just one day before their game against the Flyers on Saturday evening.
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, Tanev was even practicing with Oliver Ekman-Larsson, which suggests that Tanev is a possibility to be in the lineup.
If he does get back into the lineup, then the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be in a good position to get back into the win column.
The Maple Leafs are dealing with a few injuries right now. William Nylander, Steven Lorentz, and Scott Laughton are also dealing with ailments right now.
This has put the Leafs shorthanded, and it has made it difficult to get any momentum going, especially when it comes to continuity.
Having said that, once this team gets all of its players back, then perhaps the team can reach those heights that fans expect.
A record of 5-5-1 is not going to cut it. If they keep up this pace, they may even miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
