The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to be active in the trade market, and now there are whispers that they could target Ontario's own Scott Laughton.
This season has been a good one for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with the team believing that they've finally put together a team that will help them go on a Stanley Cup run.
Now, another potential target has been identified by The Leafs Nation, who suggest the idea of going after Scott Laughton of the Philadelphia Flyers, an Ontario native who has 12 years of experience at the NHL level.
«The name always mentioned and I love him because he plays hard 200-foot game is Scott Laughton. I heard he's a likeable guy, he makes $3M, have to give up a decent return to have him for this year and next but scout him the way Tampa Bay made trades. They aren't flashy but foundational pieces.»
While his overall stats on the year don't pop (7 goals, 16 points in 33 games), Laughton often plays in the bottom-six while serving as a great penalty killer, but he can score some great goals, as he recently posted an incredible four-goal game.
Toronto are likely to look at a much bigger option to fill their 3C role, with the team linked to many potential names, but if they want a solid veteran that will do a job, Laughton certainly isn't a bad option.
With the Flyers likely not seeing themselves as Stanley Cup contenders, there's a good chance that they are willing to sell on some veterans, and if Toronto need a centre to fill a role in their bottom-six, they may have found their perfect target.
