Toronto Maple Leafs Organization Signs Journeyman 6'4" Goaltender

You can never have too much goaltending depth. Sure, the Maple Leafs roster is packed with guys like Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll.

However, the Marlies recently lost Matt Murray to the Seattle Kraken, a team that has been desperate for goalies for quite some time.

With that in mind, the Marlies have been looking for some sort of replacement. A goalie that they can pair with Dennis Hildeby, who has a track record of being a success in the AHL.

Well, it appears as though they found that goaltender today. Just about an hour ago, the Toronto Marlies announced that they had signed Ken Appleby to a one-year deal.

Appleby is coming off a successful season with the Charlotte Checkers in which he had a goals-against average of 1.96 and a save percentage of .910. He also had six shutouts and a record of 15-8-1.

This signing was also accompanied by the signings of forwards Reese Johnson and Marc Johnstone.

Appleby is a 30-year-old journeyman who has spent most of his time between the AHL and the ECHL. Although he has played four NHL games. Three with the New Jersey Devils and one with the New York Islanders.

He won a Memorial Cup with the Oshawa Generals in 2015 and is considered to be a bit of a legend around that team.

Either way, he is a solid choice to provide Hildeby with some guidance moving forward. We cannot wait to see how these two get on with each other.

Overall, the Leafs are making some moves, and who knows, maybe Appleby will get a shot with the Maple Leafs.
