Matias Maccelli Has Strong Words for Maple Leafs Head Coach Craig Berube
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matias Maccelli is looking to make an impression with his new team, and he wants to impress head coach Craig Berube.
Matias Maccelli is one of the newest additions to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the fans are very excited to see what he can do with this team.
In 2023-24, the forward had 57 points in 82 games with the team. However, in 2024-25, the winger was downgraded to just 18 points. It was a shocking drop off, although the hope is that he returns to form.
Today, Maccelli spoke to the media, and it was here that he revealed what some of his goals are for the upcoming season. Thankfully, Leafs fans will approve of what he had to say.
Matias Maccelli on playing with Auston Matthews
According to The Hockey News, Maccelli actually had some bold and strong words for head coach Craig Berube. In his comments, he noted how he wants to play on the first line with Auston Matthews.
I would definitely love that. Playing with a guy like that would be great. I'll make sure I'll be in shape if I get a chance to play with Auston or any of the top guys in Toronto, so that would be super good.
Furthermore, Maccelli admitted that he struggled with the Utah Mammoth last season, but can still play at a high level that is conducive to winning.
I still know I'm a better player than I was back in Utah. I know I got it still in me, so now I just got to show people that again.
At the end of the day, nothing is guaranteed in the NHL. You have to work hard for every single second of playing time.
However, based on the kid's passion, there is no doubt that the 24-year-old can still have solid seasons and perhaps even increase his point totals.
A 50-point season would be a great comeback for this kid, and we truly hope he does it.
