Toronto Maple Leafs Presented a Unique Opportunity as Former 10th Overall Pick Hits Waivers
The Toronto Maple Leafs are wrapping up training camp, and while the roster is already quite full, the Carolina Hurricanes may have just bestowed a gift upon them.
With training camp coming to an end, numerous teams throughout the NHL are making cuts and putting players on waivers with the intention of sending guys to the AHL.
However, whenever this happens, there is a possibility for a team to swoop in and potentially claim these players for their NHL rosters. Although that is the catch. A player meant for the AHL cannot be claimed just to go on another AHL roster. It must be for NHL purposes only.
Having said that, the Carolina Hurricanes put multiple forwards on waivers today with the hopes that they clear and go down to the Chicago Wolves.
Tyson Jost is on waivers
One of those players just so happens to be a former 10th overall pick of the Colorado Avalanche from 2016, Tyson Jost. He has had a difficult career thus far and would be a fourth-liner at most.
Last season, Jost only had nine points in 39 games. Moreover, he split his time between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Chicago Wolves.
Furthermore, the center has 149 points in 495 career games. This is not great production, but it is still better than some of the Leafs' fourth-liners last year.
Right now, the team is a bit overcrowded as Nick Robertson, Calle Jarnkrok, and even David Kampf are all on the outside looking in.
However, if the Maple Leafs were to clear them all out, or planned to, then Jost might be an option. After all, he still has some potential that can be tapped into.
Either way, regardless of whether or not the Maple Leafs take him, we hope that Jost is able to find a new gear over the coming years.
His career has been disappointing so far, but it is never too late to turn things around for yourself.
