On Wednesday night, it was reported that Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Sam McCue was done with the Brantford Bulldogs, and his future was up in the air.
After going from the Peterborough Petes to the Owen Sound Attack to the Flint Thunderbirds to the Brantford Bulldogs, Sam McCue could not seem to keep a team for a long time.
The Toronto Maple Leafs' 2024 seventh-round pick is 20 years old and continues to bounce around the OHL, with no end in sight.
There was speculation that McCue may not even be traded, and that the team would just release him as a means of doing away with the situation.
Sam McCue traded by the Brantford Bulldogs
Reporter Scott Wheeler has revealed that this is not going to be the case. Instead, McCue is being traded to the Ottawa 67s for draft picks.
Leafs prospect Sam McCue is being traded from Brantford to Ottawa, per source. Believe it's a second and a third coming back to the Bulldogs for the overager, who they acquired in the offseason.
McCue is a good player, but the fact that he keeps bouncing around like this should definitely be concerning and a red flag for the Leafs.
Going forward, he will likely go to the NCAA, where he can develop his game further, amongst other adults around his same age.
As a seventh-round pick, his chances of actually making the NHL are slim to none, and no one should really expect him to cut it at the NHL level anytime soon.
With that in mind, you have to wonder whether or not the Maple Leafs are keeping track of this, and if they even care about what's happening.
