Toronto Maple Leafs to Honor Iconic Play-By-Play Announcer with Special Tribute Game
Joe Bowen is one of the most iconic play-by-play announcers in the entire NHL, and later this year, the Toronto Maple Leafs will give him the send-off he deserves.
At the conclusion of this season, Joe Bowen will be retiring from the broadcast world. He has been the play-by-play guy for the Toronto Maple Leafs for over 30 years, and the fans absolutely adore him.
While it is unfortunate that his career is coming to a close, you cannot blame him for wanting to move on and do something else. After all, he is getting older, and the Leafs put a lot of stress on the heart.
All jokes aside, the fans and even the Leafs players are trying to make this final season as special as possible for Bowen.
Toronto Maple Leafs look to honor Joe Bowen
According to Chris Johnston of TSN and The Athletic, the Maple Leafs will even host a tribute game for Bowen on December 16th.
The game is against the Chicago Blackhawks, which is significant as the Blackhawks are who Bowen called his very first game against.
The #leafs will honour longtime play-by-play man @Bonsie1951 with a tribute game on Dec. 16 vs. Chicago -- the same opponent they faced in Bowen's debut on Oct. 6, 1982.

If you are a fan of Bowen and the Maple Leafs, this is going to be a must-watch game for a multitude of reasons. After all, it's a great rivalry, and it's a great cause.
Bowen has never seen the Toronto Maple Leafs make the Stanley Cup Finals, let alone win it. Perhaps this could be the year the Leafs change that for him.
Whatever the case may be, we are just happy to have seen the man do his job so well for so many decades.
While he hasn't retired just yet, we do wish Bowen all the best in his final season.
