After not playing during the 2023-24 season, it was unclear what the future held for Alexander Edler's playing career but after over a year on the sidelines, he's made his mind up.
In a post on the Vancouver Canucks' website, it was revealed that Edler will sign a one-day contract with the team in October to retire as a member of the organization. The Canucks will honour Alexander Edler ahead of their game on Friday, October 11th against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Edler said that he's honoured to be given this opportunity to officially end his career with the Vancouver Canucks, the team that drafted him in 2004 and spent 15 seasons with.
The 38-year-old finishes his professional career with 439 points (104 goals, 335 assists) and 733 penalty minutes in 1,030 regular season games. He went on to add 40 points in 93 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, helping the Canucks reach the Final in 2011, where they lost to the Boston Bruins in seven games.
