Vancouver Canucks announce Dakota Joshua had surgery to remove cancer
Dakota Joshua of the Vancouver Canucks will miss the team's training camp after announcing he required surgery to remove a cancerous growth discovered by doctors
Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua has announced through the team that he won't be participating in training camp heading into the 2024-25 season, and he has a very good reason to miss it.
Dakota Joshua, who had just signed a new four-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks back in June, says he discovered a growth on his testicle over the summer that doctors would later diagnose as testicular cancer. Joshua has already had the surgery to remove it, but isn't ready to hit the ice yet. In his statement, Joshua said he will be back and ready to go as soon as he gets the go ahead from medical staff.
Dakota Joshua was a fifth-round selection, 128th overall, of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He never played for the team and ended up making his debut in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues in 2020 after four years in the American college hockey system with Ohio State University.
As mentioned by several social media users since the Dakota Joshua announcement, it's never too early to do self-checks for testicular cancer.
Sportsnet has already announced which Vancouver Canucks games it will broadcast in the 2024-25 season. The Canucks have their home opener against division rival the Calgary Flames on October 9.
