Rick Tocchet's future with Vancouver is up in the air, and after his recent comments, the questions continue to persist with the Canucks recent struggles.
The Vancouver Canucks were looking to go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024/25, but with struggles both on and off the ice, they were quickly eliminated amidst one of the most disappointing campaigns in franchise history.
With several Head Coach spots set to open up around the league, this has led to speculation around Rick Tocchet, and with the Canucks struggling, there's a 50/50 chance that he remains behind the bench moving forward.
To make that happen, Vancouver may have to make him one of the highest paid coaches in the league, and now, he's commented on his potential future, and it won't come as comfort to Canucks fans that want to keep him around.
"Of course you want to be back here, but there's a process you have to go through."
Tocchet unsurprisingly reveals that he wants to stay, but with the process of negotiating a new contract, he certainly isn't any guarantee to return, especially with plenty of question marks around the roster.
After trading
J.T. Miller and likely losing
Brock Boeser in free agency in the coming months, this roster has just as many question marks over them as Tocchet himself, and with so much negotiating to do, we likely won't have an answer on that very soon.
Ultimately, there could be better opportunities for Tocchet out there, but given his familiarity with Vancouver, it's easy to see why he wants to return, so expect these negotiations and this situation to drag on for quite some time over the summer.
