Mitch Marner's future has been clear for quite some time, and after the dramatic saga, he's now officially a member of the Vegas Golden Knights following trade.

For the past few weeks now, it's been clear that Mitch Marner would be headed to the Vegas Golden Knights, whether that be via free agency or a potential sign and trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Now, that has officially been confirmed, with Darren Dreger reporting that he's signed an eight-year deal before officially being traded to Vegas, ending his nine-year tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the process.
This deal shouldn't come as any surprise, as reports have even come out that Marner has known his future was in Vegas as far back as last season, with the veteran failing to negotiate with Toronto on an extension as a result.
Now, he officially joins the Western Conference powerhouse, likely to join a line with star centre Jack Eichel, and with the team looking to bounce back from a tough post-season loss to the Oilers, this is the type of blockbuster addition they needed to make.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the eight-year deal with Marner carries an AAV of $12 million, so while he didn't end up getting Leon Draisaitl level money, this still locks him in for $96 million over the remainder of his career.
On Toronto's side of things, this is a solid deal too, as they will get an asset in return for a player that was set to depart anyway, but even so, it's safe to say that this fanbase will have plenty of vigour for their former star when he returns as a Golden Knight.
According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, this deal is one-for-one, with the Maple Leafs getting Nicola Roy in return, and while that's not a huge deal, it's certainly much better than seeing a franchise star walk away for nothing.
Ultimately though, this is clearly what Marner wanted from the start, and now he's with Vegas in the wide open Western Conference, with expectations set to rise as this team looks to compete for a Stanley Cup once again.
