"The NHL Alumni Association is heartbroken to learn that Stephen Peat has passed away from his injuries after a tragic accident just over two weeks ago. He was only 44 years old.
In the wake of this tragic accident, Stephen will be helping to save numerous lives through organ donation.
We send our deepest condolences to Stephen's family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time." The NHL Alumni said.
Peat was drafted in the second round in 1998 by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (now Anaheim Ducks), but never suited up for them and was dealt to the Washington Capitals just two years later.
The Princeton, British Columbia native appeared in 130 games in the National Hockey League, all with the Capitals, where he had ten points (eight goals, two assists), 234 penalty minutes and was a minus-16.
The thoughts of everyone here at Blade of Steel are with Peat's family and friends at this difficult time.
