Jets unveil new uniform to commemorate 100th anniversary of Royal Canadian Air Force
The Winnipeg Jets held their annual fan fest on Saturday and used the opportunity to unveil a new uniform that will be worn during the 2023-24 season.
The uniform unveiled by the Jets on Saturday is to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force, which is set for April 1st, 2024.
Winnipeg's jersey is a modern touch on the exact same uniform worn by the 1948 Ottawa RCAF Flyers, who represented Canada at the Winter Olympics that year in Switzerland, where they brought home the gold medal
"It is a great honour and privilege for True North and the Jets to be able to take part in celebrating the RCAF's centennial,» said Mark Chipman, Governor & Executive Chairman of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club and True North Sports + Entertainment in the press release. «We have been grateful to wear our pride and appreciation for our country's military, literally over our hearts and on our sleeves, over the past 12 years through the emblem of our Winnipeg Jets. We are humbled to further share our appreciation for the selfless service of the men and women working and fighting for our country through our RCAF Flyers-inspired specialty jersey for the upcoming season."
The main colour of the uniform is powder blue and features red shoulders, as well as red and navy blue striping. Accompanying the jersey will be brown gloves, powder blue socks (with the same striping), a navy blue helmet and navy blue pants.
Winnipeg will wear the new RCAF Flyers-inspired jersey three time throughout the 2023-24 season. The first time they'll be seen on the ice is December 4th against the Carolina Hurricanes, followed by January 27th against the Toronto Maple Leafs. They'll then wear the uniforms a third and final time on April 1st, the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force, against the Los Angeles Kings.
