Former NHLer throws down in a goalie fight overseas

It's been a pretty big week in the goaltending world in the game of hockey. Strauss Mann, a goaltender for the American Hockey League's Laval Rocket scored a goal after being the last player on his team to touch the puck before the opposing team put it into their own net on a delayed penalty.

Then on Friday, in a game in the ICEHL, the top division in Austria that also has teams from Hungary, Italy and Slovenia, a goalie fight broke out featuring former NHLer Niklas Svedberg.

After the whistle, a scrum broke out between Italian club HC Bolzano and Steinbach Black Wings Linz, Niklas Svedberg skated from his own zone to take on Rasmus Tirronen, a former member of the Carolina Hurricanes organization.

Unlike the NHL, where the officials get in the way to prevent the goalies from dropping the gloves, the referees backed off and allowed Svedberg and Tirronen to engage in the fight. The fight itself didn't last very long and not many punches were thrown, before Svedberg slipped and the officials separated the pair.

While fighting is slowly going the way of the Dodo, it's always pretty interesting to see two goaltenders dropping their glove and blocker to engage in a tilt and help spark their teams.
