Florida Panthers prospect suffers a broken neck after dangerous hit from behind
Everyone knows that hockey can be a dangerous sport. Every player knows the inherent risk, unfortunately for one player, he learned just how real those risks were on March 3rd when he suffered a fractured neck.
The Florida Panthers drafted Jakub Kos in the 6th round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Since being drafted the 184th overall pick has exceeded expectations and gone onto represent his country at the 2023 World Juniors tournament. Kos went onto capture a silver medal at the tournament.
As Kos heads towards the boards he is sent head and neck first into the boards. Kos is expected to miss the rest of this season due to the injuries. The 19-year-old player who hit him was ejected from the game and received an additional 4 game suspension.
After the hit there were immediate concerns that Kos may never walk again, but since he has received some treatment the prognosis has improved and Kos hopes to be ready to play hockey again next season.
This season Kos has scored 19 points in 25 games for KooVee Tampere.
