Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel blasted St. Louis Blues head coach Jim Montgomery in a fiery press conference after dirty hits on Mark Scheifele.
The St. Louis Blues will face elimination tomorrow night after losing the fifth game of the series against the Winnipeg Jets last night by a 5-3 score.
However, in the game, the Jets lost one of their most important players to an injury.
Indeed, Mark Scheifele, who has been targeted by the Blues since the playoffs started, received two massive hits, including this one from Brayden Schenn:
In his post-game comments, Montgomery told reporters that Scheifele was hurt by another hit from Radek Faksa, later in the same period, not Schenn's:
"Let's make it clear: 55 (Scheifele) got hurt from the Faksa hit. He played six more minutes after the Schenn hit. He didn't come back after getting rocked by Faksa." - Jim Montgomery
Arniel responded by saying the Blues coach was "way off base," highlighting the growing rivalry between the two teams:
"Well, I didn't know Monty had a medical degree-trying to say how our player got hurt. He's way off base. He shouldn't be making that kind of comment. There are things that have been going on in this series, and that hit was a repeat of what we've seen before: a player leaving his feet and hitting someone in a very unprotected spot.
I wasn't happy with how the call was made. Just a two-minute minor. What upset me even more was that they didn't even look at it. This is something we've been talking to the league about for five games now." - Scott Arniel
With Arniel calling out the league in his presser, one can only wonder if the NHL will take action against Schenn before the sixth game of the series, set to go down tomorrow night in St. Louis.
