Trailblazing star Trevor Zegras is in the final year of his three-year, entry-level contract and is scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1st.

The Anaheim Ducks haven't been winning many games so far this season, but fans continue to enjoy the sensational play of the 21 year old blossoming superstar. In 16 games, Zegras has 7 goals and 15 points.

Look for Zegras to cash in on a long-term deal with the Anaheim Ducks, but contract negotiations have not yet started between the team and Zegras' camp.

During his Tuesday appearance on NHL Tonight on NHL Network, The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported that the Montreal Canadiens have started contract discussions with their young star Cole Caufield, who has the same agent as Zegras.

Pagnotta noted that while talks between the Habs and Pat Brisson are underway regarding a deal for Caufield, negotiations between the Ducks and Brisson on Zegras' next deal have not yet begun.

«(The Canadiens are) in discussions with (Caufield's) agent Pat Brisson, who has another really good young player up for a contract, Trevor Zegras in Anaheim,»
Pagnotta said.
«They haven't started yet. Looks like Cole Caufield might get ahead of things in that regard.»
