This afternoon, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman broke yet another trade, this time being the Arizona Coyotes sending defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 3rd round draft pick in 2026.
Gostisbehere is a puck-moving, offensive defenceman, that can be insulated nicely into Carolina's incredibly strong defensive group. With 10 goals and 31 points in 51 games, Gostisbehere has been producing at an impressive rate on a terrible Coyotes team. Gostisbehere's offensive contributions could be very similar to what Tony DeAngelo brought in his time with Carolina, but without the personal baggage.
Gostisbehere is in the final year of a contract that pays him $4.5M annually, and at the time of writing, it's unclear if the Coyotes will be retaining any salary in the deal.
This trade will have significant impact on the Hurricanes, as Gostisbehere will be a quality offensive contributor on what could be a long playoff run. On the flip side, the Arizona Coyotes' roster just became even more desolate, and the perpetual rebuild continues.
