The Carolina Hurricanes have announced the signing of Pyotr Kochetkov to a four-year contract extension worth $2 million per season. Kochetkov is the second-round pick of the Hurricanes back in 2019. Kochetkov has played well when called upon for Carolina. He has two wins and two overtime losses this year and his goals against average is 2.00. Kochetkov was recalled when Frederik Anderson was placed on injured reserve earlier this month.

The Hurricanes must like what they see from their young Russian goaltender despite playing in only seven career NHL games. In years past, he's put-up respectable numbers in the American League as well as the KHL. If Kochetkov continues to play well, this is a good contract for the player and for the organization.

Carolina gets a quality backup for a reasonable price and Kochetko is only twenty-three years old. Both Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta are both unrestricted free agents at the end of this season. Perhaps with Kochetkov's new contract extension, this could be the final year for either Andersen or Raanta in Carolina. Both Raanta and Andersen are thirty-three years old.
